As spring sprung and summer approaches the children have become increasingly interested in the natural aspect of our playground, observing and searching for anything from flowers to worms!
Children have begun to build shelters or homes for insects and bugs they find. They pay careful attention to what kind of bug it is and the environment that it needs to survive. For instance, for worms they build shelters that have a lot of dirt and no sun light, where as for beetles they build a more open, yet still shaded environment.
This home for a caterpillar is completely shaded and stuffed with leaves for eating!
Whereas these beetle homes let a little bit of light in and have many places for the beetles to move in and out.
Sometimes searching for bugs and insects is a group activity!
Other favorite activities on the playground include…
Riding cars and bikes!
And balancing!

Kakumyo, a monk and senior priest at Dharma Rain, came into our classroom last Thursday to introduce the children to tumbling! The children were so excited, they could barely contain it. Especially when he shared that he will be coming every Thursday morning!
Thank you Kakumyo! We’ll see you next week!
