We are back to school at Frog Song this month, deep in play and getting back to the child’s ‘work.’ There are so many benefits to outdoor play for young children, including…
Physical health- it promotes physical activity, coordination and endurance
Mental and emotional well-being- reduces stress, enhances attention and improves relaxation
Cognitive and social development- Fosters curiosity, creativity, problem-solving, teamwork and resilience

At Frog Song we go outside rain or shine and honor a child’s need for and desire to be in nature. Different weather systems inspire different kinds of play. Below are some pictures of what we’ve been up to as the season changes from summer to fall!
At the end of summer logs and stick tend to get lighter and easier to move around, and we notice that the children start to work together to gather them and build things like campfire or bridges.

As the leaves start to fall off the trees it inspires all kinds of play. A really popular one in the last few weeks as been fishing!

Climbing is always a common activity for young children, and at Frog Song we have lots of hills to challenge and inspire!

And, of course, rain! Rain inspires so many different kinds of play. This last month the children have been into collecting water to make potions and soups, taking advantage of the softer soil to excavate rocks and things, as well as create platforms for the bottom of slides!
