Halloween… Boo!

December 21, 2015 by Claire Lundy

Halloween was a very exciting time at Frog Song! In the weeks leading up to it our classroom buzzed with stories of pumpkin patch visits, pumpkin carving, spooky decorations, and many lyrics to our much loved Halloween song, “Full Moon Overhead.” We even had some celebrations of our own, including a trip to Bushue’s Family Farm where children got to make their very own dirt baby, go on a hay ride, pick a pumpkin and a gourd, and play in a corn maze!

We also had a classroom Halloween celebration!

The children then trick or treated around our property (cut very short due to the rain!).

Followed by a family picnic style lunch inside! Thank you so much for all your help, parents, on the field trip and during the trick or treating. What a delightful way to spend a rainy Halloween!

Rainbow Dash

December 21, 2015 by Claire Lundy

In the beginning of October we acquired a new member to our classroom, in the form of a turtle!

Excitement over our new class member bubbled as children observed her, named her Rainbow Dash, helped feed her, and decorated her aquarium with watercolors, drawings and other festive adornments. And then, just when she had settled in we had to say our goodbyes, so that Rainbow Dash could move somewhere cold to hibernate for the winter. It was a great opportunity for the children to not only learn about hibernation, but actually experience it on a sensorial level!

There she rests! We miss you Rainbow Dash and we’ll see you in the spring!

Our Natural Playground!

December 21, 2015 by Claire Lundy

When visions of our playground first began to take shape in our minds, we imagined a natural place for creative and sensorial exploration. As the school year neared, our plans for the playground, rooted and well formed, were slow to take shape. Thanks to a very enthusiastic group of parents and children we were able to put up a fence and develop different areas of the playground. Thank you so much for all of your hard work, we couldn’t have done it without you!
