With 14 acres to explore the children at Frog Song get to experience the changing of the seasons first hand. In particular, the pond has served as a tool for understanding how weather changes affect water on earth. During the summer the pond went from being.. well.. a pond…
To a dried up basin!
When fall came around and the rain graced us with its wet presence, our pond returned!
Each and every change is noticed and celebrated by the children. The pond’s disappearance was just as exciting as its return, and with each change the children naturally explore how and why the change has occurred. It is an amazing place for children to experience the interaction between water and temperature in a concrete, sensorial way!
Most recently the children have discovered what happens to water in freezing temperatures. Ice!
Only 5 minutes in did they all discover how holding and touching ice makes your fingers really cold. Oh the importance of natural consequences!
